The story behind the white pebbles
Beaches in the south part of Milos Island are full of these beautiful small white pebbles mixed with other pretty rocks.
These white stones are Milky Quartz crystals, (some call it Milk Diamond). Their white color is given to the rocks by inclusions of millions of tiny bubbles of water or gas that are trapped within the crystal, giving it its amazing milk-like color.
Its origin is not volcanic (as almost all the other rocks on Milos island) but it’s mixed beautifully with the rest of the pebbles of the beach making, together with the blue of the Aegean sea an amazing colorful scene, unique in the Cyclades.
You will find milky quartz mostly in Agia Kyriaki and the surrounding area.
